Belfair missing child

Jefferson Search and Rescue, along with many other nearby SAR units, sent personnel to assist this morning with the search for a 10-year-old child for whom Mason County had been searching throughout the night. The child was located in the afternoon after extensive public outreach and search of the area by helicopter, UAV, ground teams and canine teams.

Recent searches

JSAR was called or put on standby for a number of searches recently that were closed prior to our personnel being dispatched or arriving on scene, including a missing hunter in the Neah Bay area (12/31/2019); a missing person along the Hoh River (1/17/2020) who was found and rescued by a US Coast Guard helicopter crew; a stranded kayaker in the Coyle area during a wind storm (1/31/2020) who was also rescued by a USCG helicopter crew; and the recovery of a deceased subject near Murhut Falls (2/15/2020).

Nordland missing person

JSAR assisted Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office in the early hours of February 4 with a search for an adult who had become lost on Marrowstone Island. The subject was located quickly by law enforcement, and JSAR assisted with aid until East Jefferson Fire Rescue arrived to provide evaluation for cold injuries.

North Beach bluff recovery

JSAR was paged early on the afternoon of Sunday, December 29, 2019, to assist Port Townsend PD with an ongoing search in and around the city for a missing adult. Unfortunately, the mission became a recovery a short time later. JSAR personnel worked with PTPD, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and East Jefferson Fire Rescue to recover the subject, accessing the North Beach area from the water to minimize work on and below unstable bluffs.

Fort Worden Search

JCSO requested JSAR personnel for a search at Fort Worden. We responded this morning with five ground searchers, who worked closely with law-enforcement personnel from several agencies to search assigned areas around the last known position of the missing subject. The search was more resource-intensive than most, requiring air, sea and ground resources.

Crab Pot Sales

Our latest sale of crab pots and related supplies was held in July 2019. We typically run two sales per year, depending on how much inventory we obtain from Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife. Most of what we sell is recovered gear that WDFW is unable to return to its owner — when they bring us more, we schedule a sale. Sales are typically held in or near Port Townsend, Washington, on Sunday mornings. We advertise them on Facebook, Craigslist and this site, and occasionally the Port Townsend Leader publishes an article about an upcoming sale. Send usContinue readingCrab Pot Sales

Lake Constance rescue

JSAR responded to the Lake Constance trail on Saturday, 7/21/19, for a reported injured hiker. NAS Whidbey Island SAR helicopter crew was requested due to the nature of injuries and condition of the trail. Olympic Mountain Rescue was requested for additional technical rescuers in case a carryout became necessary. NASWI SAR was able to insert two crew members, find the patient and hoist him while ground crews were still hiking up the trail.

Murhut Falls Tech Rescue

JSAR responded on the afternoon of Friday, August 23, 2019, to Murhut Falls to work with Brinnon Fire, JCSO, Olympic National Forest, Washington State Parks and Olympic Mountain Rescue personnel on the technical rescue of a fall patient near the falls. A high line was set up to move the littered patient across the creek to the trail, and from there the patient was transported via wheeled litter to the trailhead.
